Improper handling of “Freon” and other CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons)

Q:  Who can I contact to report improper handling of Freon?

A:  Freon is actually a trade name commonly used to describe a whole class of chemicals used in refrigeration known as chlorofluorocarbons, or CFCs, identified by the EPA as ozone-depleting substances. Click here for EPA's webpage on refrigerants.

Citizens may report an environmental violation directly to EPA's Office of Compliance and Enforcement using an interactive form: http://www.epa.gov/compliance/complaints/index.html. The may do so anonymously. There is also a link to the enforcement office in your region at http://www.epa.gov/compliance/whereyoulive/index.html.
