Emergency Generators - Although emergency generators are not used often, there is a way to achieve additional emission reductions.

1. Use a bio-diesel blend as fuel, for example, 80% ultra low sulfur diesel + 20% bio-diesel. Depending on where the engine is placed, fuel stored, and turn over of fuel, this may not be a good option in eastern WA. Currently B20 diesel blends are successfully treated to 0 degrees fahrenheit.  B20 blends have a short shelf life (6-months).
2. There is a B5 blend available in Spokane Co. that has shown success dealing with cold weather issues.

Local Efforts: To the agency's knowledge, there aren't any generators using bio-fuel. There are a few school districts in Spokane County that have had great success running their bus fleet on a bio-diesel blend.
